Starmancer - Out now! + Early Access Starmap Sneak Peek 😉
over 2 years ago – Sun, Aug 08, 2021 at 08:47:24 PM

Think you could manage a fledgling space colony as a powerful A.I? Starmancer is out now in Early Access for PC, Mac and Linux on Steam, Microsoft Store, Xbox Game Pass for PC, GOG and Humble Store.

As fans of causing chaos, the wonderful team at Ominux Games have been working hard to develop a colony sim where you decide the fate of your colonists. With a volatile space station to manage and the threat of hostile forces, you’ll need to do what it takes to ensure survival or face the consequences…

What to expect:

  •  In space, nobody can hear you build - An empty canvas, your space station is begging to be customised. Build vital, functional devices and express yourself with fancy furniture while ensuring power, oxygen and water are in plentiful supply. Now you can design your dream space kitchen or bedroom!

  •  Coloniser, coloniser, oh, you’re a coloniser - With humanity at the brink of extinction, human beings are made in less...conventional ways. Use an incubator to grow your unique colonists and put them to work. Between their winning personalities, relationships, and memories, colonists can become quite the handful. Satisfy their needs or make them disappear, we’ll leave that choice to you.

  •  That’s over, you’re cancelled - Actions have consequences and Starmancer is no different. Unhappy colonists won’t sit idly by and may eventually rebel against you, organising a mutiny. With the threat of invasion from otherworldly creatures, you may not want to make more enemies. Under stress, colonists may also snap and become crazy. Who knows what they’ll do then? (We do. It’s not pretty).

The team are excitedly squirrelling away on Starmancer and with your feedback and suggestions, hope to continue growing and improving the game. The starmap above will give you a preview of what we aim to tackle during Early Access, with more information to come in the future. As always, thank you to our wonderful backers for your continued support and we can’t wait to see what you build.

To keep updated with Starmancer be sure to follow the team on Twitter, check out the official Discord channel and the game’s dev blog.

Starmancer blasts off into Early Access in less than a week!
over 2 years ago – Wed, Aug 04, 2021 at 12:23:42 AM

Firstly, we want to say a MASSIVE THANK YOU to all our backers, especially those who took part in our Closed Alpha and Betas. Your feedback has been invaluable in the development of Starmancer. We also want to thank you for your patience as we get things organised for launch. Below are some key points we've been asked about.

Key Distribution

We’re aiming to send out keys from today, Monday 2nd August, after 2pm UK / 9am EDT / 6am PDT via Backerkit to our backers at the “The Base Game” and “The Supporter” tier. Don’t panic if keys don’t arrive immediately, we’re sending them early to account for this and don’t forget to check your spam folders. If you haven’t received your key after 24 hours, please reach out to us on Discord. You’re able to stream/post about the game as soon as it’s playable so go nuts and share your awesome space stations with us on Discord and Twitter.

Backer Rewards

Remaining backer rewards are in the works and will be available after Early Access to ensure high quality, complete content. We appreciate your patience.

Introducing Hassan!

We also wanted to take a moment to introduce our new Community and Social Media Manager, Hassan. He’ll be floating around on our socials and Discord so say hi and feel free to chat with him. He’ll also be sharing your feedback and suggestions with us so we can continue to tweak the game for you.

Early Access - What’s it about?

We’ve got plenty of ideas of what to add during Early Access. Initially, we’ll be focusing on quality-of-life improvements for a better overall experience, with content following shortly after. This gives the community time to get deeper into the game and share suggestions/ideas with us, and provides us the flexibility to focus on looking into the content and mechanics that you want to see.

Future Content

While we have some content ideas already planned, we’re focusing on improving the base experience. Once we’ve polished that base experience, we’ll start to implement new content including your suggestions and ideas. We have the game’s direction already but other aspects of the title will be directed by your feedback.

Giving Feedback

We’ve mentioned it a lot already but we really do want to hear from you! The best way to share your thoughts, ideas and feedback is through the game itself, directly to us. Simply hit the ESC key to enter the menu and select the “Give Feedback” option. This is especially useful for bugs as it includes metadata and logs. You can also share your feedback through our Discord, Twitter and Steam forums.

Localisation

For Early Access, we’re sticking with English for quicker and more flexible build updates. We’re keen to offer more language options so please let us know what languages you’d like to see Starmancer in and we can re-evaluate closer to 1.0.

Future Platforms

We’re currently focusing on developing and improving the game further for PC, Linux and Mac. We’ll keep an eye on community feedback for any potential future platform considerations.

CORSAIR iCUE Integration

We’re excited to announce a partnership with CORSAIR where Starmancer will feature iCUE dynamic RGB lighting integration for CORSAIR hardware to enhance your immersion while exploring deep space in Starmancer. Keep an eye out on CORSAIR’s and Chucklefish’s social media for game keys and hardware giveaways.

Mod Support

Yes! We look forward to seeing what our talented community come up with. We’re also looking into Steamworks integration. Stay tuned.

Launch Time

Starmancer will deploy on Steam from 8am BST UK time Thursday 5th August (might take a while to fully deploy to all regions) / midnight PDT.

We’re excited to have you join us on our journey into Early Access and can’t wait to see how you manage, customise and design your space stations. Be sure to join our Discord, follow us on Twitter and Facebook.

See you among the stars! 🚀

Starmancer Early Access Release Date!
almost 3 years ago – Tue, Jun 15, 2021 at 10:37:20 PM

We're releasing into Early Access on August 5th 2021! (It's a Thursday.)

Here’s the announcement trailer that was just shown during the Future Games Show E3 2021 showcase:

Early Access

Our plan has always been to release Starmancer and continue adding new, free content for a long time (until way after it's responsible).

We have high level plans for post launch (e.g. weapons, livestock, bots, genetic augmentation), but our most important goal is to be as flexible as possible and address the least fun areas of the game.

Getting feedback from our community throughout development and recently during the Closed Beta has been super important for us. The element of fun adds a constant, unknowable cost. It's not easy to play your own game and figure out what's fun and what’s not, especially as a 2 person dev-team. That’s why we want to keep this flow of feedback going with you all for an Early Access launch and beyond.

We want you to show us what you like about Starmancer (we'll add more of it), but also tell us what you don't like. If another game does something better, we want to know about it! Maybe they solved the same problem we’re having—good—everyone benefits from a great solution.

On a more personal note: we want to make something that's fun. There's a person out there having a bad day, and we want to make something that makes their day slightly less bad. We're not trying to make a game with a profound message, or to prove how "creative" we are.

It's a game. Games should be fun.

There's extra info, and a more in-depth report on what we've recently added to Starmancer on our website and we’ll be posting an update back here soon.

See you all on August 5th and don't forget to tell your friends!

-Tyler

(Not) a progress report, New Demo!
almost 4 years ago – Wed, Jun 17, 2020 at 06:30:27 PM

It's been a while since the last progress report 🙄

This is not a progress report, instead we invite you to actually see the progress for yourself, by playing our new demo, which is the most current alpha build, with some limitations!

Steam Game Festival Demo

Between June 16th and 22nd you’ll be able play the Demo as part of the Steam Game Festival! We're giving you the (mostly) full game with a 60 minute timer which you can restart as many times as you want. The timer is also paused when you pause the game, so you can take your time without stress.

Link to Starmancer on Steam

Each play-through has a randomly-generated set of colonists so every game will be a bit different. You’ll start with some extra cash, all cosmetics unlocked, and most of the base game is there, including but not limited to slime monsters, fire, space madness and mysterious eggs. Send out your crew to infested stations, extract alien nectar using the incubator, farm wheat and make waffles, or just relax and spend your hour decorating with posters, paints, and carpets.

Q&A Session on Friday

There will also be a Q&A session on Friday 19th June at 19.00 BST / 21.00 MSK / 11.00 PDT / 14.00 EDT / 20.00 CST in the Chucklefish Discord!  Tell your friends, coworkers, and mail handlers!

Beta, when?

We're aiming to get beta out a few weeks after the Steam Game Festival.

We've been play testing and polishing the game the past weeks for the sake of not only the demo, but the beta release. We still have a few things we want to include before beta.

You can check our Roadmap here!

Brief(-ish) Summary

For those who haven't been following our Devblog or Discord, I'm going to quickly summarize some of the changes since the last Kickstarter update.

- Capitalism: Items are no longer used to build things, only for crafting or powering objects. This allows us to add way more items, without construction being overwhelming or too specific. You can now sell almost all items, and use the money to expand your station.

- New Jobs: The jobs are now the following: Engineer, Chemist, Botanist, Doctor and Laborer.  There can only be one Chief Engineer, Chemist, Botanist and Doctor. These are the ones that do all the item crafting at their workstations. There can be an unlimited amount of Engineer- and Botanist-Assistants, as well as Laborers.

- Research: You start with only a few things you can build, and you'll have to research to unlock more.

- Crafting: To craft items, like Medkits, Tomato Juice or Crops you need to find Recipe Caches from missions, before you can order your colonist to make them.

- Phoenix Protocol: You start with a limited number of colonist that you can grow. When a colonist dies you can recycle them, and grow them again. To get more colonist you'll have to find new ones on missions. This means you'll be more familiar with them and their unique traits, no matter how many times they perish from an oopsie.

- K.A.T: If this seems a bit overwhelming, don't worry. Our new A.I Assistant KAT will help guide you. We've also made sure to add UI icons, notifications and messages that informs you of everything going on, and there are so, so many tooltips.. Should you still find something confusing, please send us your feedback!

That's it for now!

Have a great summer and stay safe!
